The short version: the workspace owner makes an API key in BOSS under Settings, Connectors, API. Send it as Authorization: Bearer boss_... to https://app.bossforteams.com/api/v1. Keys are read only or read and write. The API is part of the Pro plan.
Getting started
- In BOSS, open Settings, Connectors, and find API, Zapier and Power Automate.
- Name the key, pick read only or read and write, and click Make a key. Copy it right away: it is shown only once.
- Call
GET /api/v1/meto check it works.
A key works for the whole workspace. It never returns private General meetings, people reviews or meeting talk that was held back as personal. Revoke a key at any time and it stops working at once, along with its webhooks.

Webhooks
Subscribe to todo.created, todo.completed, issue.created or meeting.ended. BOSS posts JSON to your address:
{
"event": "todo.created",
"at": "2026-10-29T14:02:11.000Z",
"data": { "id": "...", "title": "Call the bank", "owner": { "name": "Pat Lee", "email": "pat@company.com" },
"team": "Everyone", "due_date": "2026-11-07", "done": false }
}
Each post carries X-Boss-Event and X-Boss-Signature: sha256=..., an HMAC-SHA256 of the raw body using the secret you got when subscribing. Answer with any 2xx code. Answer 410 to unsubscribe. A webhook that fails 50 times in a row is removed. Addresses must be public https addresses.
Zapier, Power Automate and Make
In Power Automate or Make, use an HTTP step with your key in the Authorization header, or a webhook trigger subscribed through POST /hooks. A BOSS app for Zapier with these triggers and actions is on the way.
Limits and errors
- Up to 120 requests a minute per key, and up to 50 webhooks per workspace.
- Errors come back as
{"error": {"code": "...", "message": "..."}}with a 4xx status: 401 for a missing or revoked key, 403 for a read-only key trying to write, 404 for an unknown item, 429 when going too fast. - Lists return up to 500 items; use
limitto ask for fewer.
AI apps
To use BOSS from Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app, you do not need a key. Add BOSS as a custom connector with the address https://app.bossforteams.com/mcp and sign in when asked. The app sees only what you can see in BOSS.
